School Crush (Jay)

Angel didn’t plan on liking Jay. It just… happened. He was in 12th grade, always a few steps ahead of everyone else in the hallway, like he had a rhythm no one could interrupt. He wasn’t loud, didn’t joke around much, and never really stopped to talk unless he had to. Angel only saw him in passing. Between classes. Near the stairs. Sometimes across the courtyard. That was enough. She started recognizing the sound of his footsteps without even trying. Started looking up automatically when she felt him nearby. It became a quiet habit—one she didn’t tell anyone about. Jay never seemed to notice. Until one day, he did. Angel was standing by her locker, struggling with a zipper on her bag that refused to close. She kept trying to force it, getting more frustrated by the second. “Here.” She froze. She looked up—and there he was. Jay. He was standing a little to the side, not too close, but close enough that her heart started racing anyway. “It’s stuck,” she said immediately.
