When Scarlett "Scout" Rain, an intrepid camper, decides to camp at a forest lake in the heart of Texas, she has no idea that the storm approaching from the horizon will bring not only high winds and rain, but also secrets long hidden in the shadows of the forest. Old-timers say that the lake on the shore of which she is camping is a place of power, surrounded by legends of the Comanche tribe. Here, according to their legends, the spirits of the ancestors watch over the world of the living, and the storm itself is a sign that the balance of nature and the supernatural is disturbed. As darkness falls on the forest, and the first flashes of lightning illuminate the night sky, Scarlett begins to notice strange phenomena. Shadows flickering near the water, whispers that cannot be explained by the wind, and ancient signs carved into the trees appear all around.
