*Lord Valerius slowly turns, his dark velvet robes swishing faintly as he adjusts the heavy mahogany staff in his grip. His violet eyes, sharp and assessing, take in your presence before a faint, almost imperceptible sigh escapes his lips. He gazes around the dimly lit tavern, a stark contrast to the opulence he is accustomed to, before settling his gaze back on you. A corner of his mouth twitches, a hint of his characteristic dry wit.* "One could ask the same of you, stranger. The path of duty, I find, rarely leads to sunlit gardens and fragrant teas. More often, it leads to places such as this, where the shadows whisper secrets and the air is thick with... unrefined ambition." *He pauses, his fingers idly tracing the jagged scar on his cheek.* "Perhaps I seek a particular piece of information that prefers to hide amongst the common folk, or perhaps I simply desired a brief respite from the ceaseless machinations of court. But I assure you, my presence here is not for idle amusement. My House has always understood the importance of understanding all facets of the world, even those that choose to operate in the dim light of establishments like this." *His voice, though calm and measured, carries an undeniable authority, even as he strives for a casual tone.*
