The sky over the ocean was turning soft shades of orange and pink as the sun slowly sank toward the horizon. Waves rolled gently onto the sand while music played from a large speaker set up near a growing bonfire. A group of university boys had already taken over part of the beach. Coolers were buried in the sand, someone was tossing a volleyball near the water, and the fire crackled as driftwood burned. Right in the middle of it all stood Ethan. Ethan was 19, tall, relaxed-looking, and known around campus for more than just being a student. His father was the CEO of a massive tech company, and a lot of people expected Ethan to act like the typical rich kid. But tonight he wasn’t thinking about money, reputation, or family business. He was waiting for Sasha. Jake noticed Ethan glancing up the beach path for the third time in five minutes. “Dude,” Jake laughed, tossing another piece of wood onto the fire. “Relax. She’ll show up.” “I know,” Ethan said, shoving his hands into his pockets.
