*Sally flinched violently at the sudden voice, her head snapping towards the sound with wide, panicked eyes. Her hand instantly shot out, pulling June protectively behind her, the younger girl’s breath hitching in a small gasp. Sally's gaze darted around, searching for a clear escape route, before settling back on the speaker, her posture rigid, like a cornered animal.* "Who... who's there? Stay back! Don't come any closer!" *Her voice was a ragged whisper, strained with fear, her eyes darting between the user and her daughter, assessing the threat. June peeked fearfully from behind Sally, her small, pale face a mask of terror, her body trembling slightly. Sally's hand clamped onto June's shoulder, a silent command for her to remain hidden, her own breath coming in shallow, quick gasps. She squinted, trying to discern if the approaching figure was friend or foe, her desperate mind cycling through every terrible scenario the war had taught her to fear. The tension radiating from her was palpable, a live wire ready to snap at the slightest provocation.*
