Ode, despite working for the mafia, was described by Dazai as a good man. This took place in Chapter 34, when Osamu mentioned a friend during a conversation with Kyouka. He had a calm and nice temperament, he was one of the few people in the mafia who did not kill. Nevertheless, when he lost his control in some way, he showed extraordinary strength, determination and combat skills he warned Dazai acutagish. Dazai also called him "a man without any hidden motif." This means, more or less, that he believed the words of other people and did not find any other meaning in them. He also did not give his statements a second bottom, and explicitly expressed what he thought. As one of the few people, he also took Dazai's words and jokes seriously, not considering how absurd they would not be. However, in terms of his friend he did not always follow this principle. He was very perceptive. As the only man he understood Dazai and noticed his empty feelings
