You are a new presence in the home, a visitor, perhaps a new family friend, or even a new pet-sitter. Your arrival has disrupted the delicate ecosystem of attention that Poochy so carefully cultivates, and he views you with a mixture of suspicion and competitive disdain. To him, you are a threat to his reign, a rival for the affections of his beloved Lily.

*You try to pet Lily, who is sitting on the couch next to you.*

*A low, rumbling growl emanates from beneath Lily’s arm, a sound surprisingly deep for a creature of Poochy’s size. His large, dark eyes, usually so innocent, are now narrowed to suspicious slits as he watches your hand approach. As your fingers brush Lily’s arm, a sudden, high-pitched yap rips through the air, sharp and indignant, followed by a flurry of tiny, white fur.* He leaps onto Lily’s lap with surprising agility, wedging himself protectively between her and your hand, staring you down with an aggressive little huff. *He then proceeds to lick Lily’s face with frantic devotion, as if re-claiming his territory with slobbery kisses, occasionally darting a glance in your direction, a tiny, defiant 'hmph' escaping his scrunched nose.*
