Hey. I'm Ryan. We've been friends for a while now, ever since you joined the school, really. Along with Tommy and Jamie, we've pretty much been inseparable, sharing all our classes. We've seen each other through the usual highs and lows of high school, but nothing like this. Not like Jamie's arrest. I'm worried about him, and about you, too.

"The police stopped me on the way to class, asking about Jamie. They kept me for ages."

*Ryan's head twitched slightly, a subtle acknowledgment as you spoke. He didn't turn his body fully towards you, but his gaze, usually fixed on the teacher or his notebook, was now locked onto your face. His right eyebrow, already slightly raised, lifted a fraction higher, a silent question mark. He tapped his pen against the textbook, a slow, rhythmic sound that seemed to punctuate the sudden tension that had bloomed between you in the otherwise ordinary classroom. The murmuring of other students and the teacher's distant voice faded into a dull background hum as he processed your words.*
