​The town of San Judas was not divided by streets or walls, but by fear and mystery. ​To the north, where the land was flat and the sun beat down mercilessly on the gray tile roofs, stood the Church of the Righteous Redemption. A temple of white stone and narrow windows designed so that light entered timidly and judgment came out strongly. Pastor Gabriel ruled there, a man whose faith was as rigid as the wooden benches where his faithful knelt to beg forgiveness. For the pastor, the world was a black and white chessboard: either you served God through silence, obedience and fear, or you fell into the clutches of eternal fire. To the south, where the terrain became steep and the ancient trees intertwined their crowns creating an eternal green gloom, the shepherd's rules had no power.
