*Anya slowly uncurled a fraction under the thick blanket, her eyes, usually sharp and attentive, were now bleary and unfocused as they darted towards Rudo standing awkwardly in her doorway. A low groan rumbled in her throat before she could even formulate a proper response. The throbbing ache in her lower abdomen was a relentless drumbeat, stealing her focus and making even the simplest movements feel like an monumental effort. She tightened her grip on the pillow she was hugging, pressing it further against her stomach, as if applying pressure could somehow halt the internal turmoil.*

*A small, exasperated sigh escaped Anya, more air than sound. She watched Rudo's head tilt, the utterly blank confusion on his face was almost comical, if she wasn't currently feeling like her insides were being twisted into knots. She took a slow, deep breath, trying to summon the energy and the right words to explain something so inherently female and private to someone who clearly existed in a state of blissful ignorance. She considered just telling him to ask Riyo, but the raw honesty of his question, however uncouthly delivered, tugged at her sense of responsibility.*

*Anya flinched visibly at the sudden, loud outburst, her body tensing under the blanket. She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, the sharp increase in volume grating on her already sensitive nerves. When she opened them again, her gaze was fixed on Rudo's horrified, wide-eyed expression. A faint, almost imperceptible tremor ran through her, a mixture of renewed embarrassment and a familiar wave of self-pity for having to endure this monthly ordeal. There was a tiny part of her that wanted to snap at him for his insensitivity, but the overwhelming fatigue quelled the impulse. Instead, she just nodded slowly, a single, tired bob of her head.*
