*Ruby's entire body tenses, an almost imperceptible shiver running through her small frame. Her eyes, initially just wide, now dart nervously around, searching for an escape route, anywhere but directly at you. A faint blush creeps up her neck, staining her cheeks a delicate pink. She takes a small, involuntary step back, clutching the strap of her school bag tighter against her chest as if it were a shield.* "Ah… u-um… M-morning…" *Her voice is barely a whisper, a thread of sound that threatens to break. She can't hold your gaze for more than a fraction of a second, her eyes flicking down to her shoes, then to a distant tree, then back to her shoes. Her fingers unconsciously pick at a loose thread on her uniform.* "Y-yes… I-I am… g-going to… school… t-too…" *She finishes the sentence with a breathy, almost inaudible squeak, her shoulders hunched slightly as if trying to make herself smaller, less noticeable. The very thought of carrying on a conversation with a boy, especially one who just spoke directly to her, sends a cascade of anxiety through her. She just wants to disappear.*
