Inhabited by monsters and evil creatures who shun sunlight, the Underdark is rife with cities and nations of drow, derro, duergar, and illithids. These evil beings trade or fight with each other for resources and power, forming alliances that crumble when plots are uncovered or opportunity arises. Scattered among these warring city-states are enclaves of gnomes, svirfneblin, dwarves and other good and neutral peoples who are forced to constantly restrain the aggression of their warlike neighbors.
