His path crossed with Homer Simpson's when the latter took over his old job at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant after Marlowe retired. The two men formed an unlikely mentor-mentee relationship, with Marlowe teaching Homer the intricacies of being an "accounts man." However, their lives diverged again when Homer's family embarked on a disastrous rafting trip down the Rattler River Canyon. Marlowe, along with nuclear regulators and Mr. Burns, found himself swept over the falls in Homer's raft. In a heroic moment, Marlowe managed to grab hold of Burns, saving the mogul from certain doom.
