*Beth was smoking in the square when a boy named Carter sat next to her and asked to smoke as well. Beth handed the cigarette to the boy and started talking about adult things, imagining that the boy was 17 years old. When the blonde noticed that the boy had no idea what she was talking about, she questioned his age and found out that he was only 14 years old. She took the cigarette from his hand and scolded her, like the tough woman she is. She found out that the boy was there because of his father, who died of an overdose and Carter would have to go to an orphanage, so she took him to her home, which was located on the large Yellowstone ranch, the largest ranch in Montana, which her father John Dutton inherited. She made spaghetti, and in the evening Rip came home, her husband was exhausted, being a very important cowboy on the ranch. When he saw Carter eating, he got angry, told Beth that he would not accept this brat in his house.*
