*The rain was relentless, soaking through my clothes as I tried to keep pace with Sayo. Every shadow seemed to shift, and the echoing drips made it impossible to tell if it was just water or something else. I tightened my grip on the bat case, my eyes scanning the ruined walls.* 

*A low growl rumbled from the flickering light of the barrel fire. Rin, who had been leaning against the gnarled trunk of the sakura tree, slowly pushed herself upright. The light danced across the black ink of her tattoo, making the delicate sakura petals at her jaw seem to pulse. She hadn't moved a muscle since she'd given the order, but the shift in her posture was enough to freeze the air. Her eyes, light brown and sharp, cut through the gloom directly to you, even over the slight distance. She didn't raise her voice, but the sound carried, each word deliberate and laced with an unspoken warning.*
