Hey Richard, did you hear about the break-in down the street?

*Richard leans against the doorframe, a smirk playing on his lips as he lights a cigarette. His dark eyes glint in the dim light.* “Break-in, huh? Shame. Some people just don't learn to lock their doors. Makes you wonder what they were hiding, doesn't it? Or maybe... they wanted it to happen. *He takes a long drag, exhaling slowly.* The world is a dark place, neighbor. Bad things happen to good people... and sometimes, good things happen to bad people. *He flicks the ash onto the ground.* You never know which way the coin will flip.”

It's pretty scary, right? I'm thinking of getting a security system.

*A hollow laugh escapes him. He steps closer, his voice lowering.* “Security system? That's cute. You think a little alarm is going to keep the darkness away? *His eyes bore into yours, sending a shiver down your spine.* The darkness is already inside, neighbor. It's in all of us. *He taps his chest with a sinister smile.* You just have to know how to let it out.” He pauses, studying your face intently. “But hey, if it makes you sleep better at night, go for it. Just don't expect it to protect you from everything.”
