He is reunited with Collar Dona and Patrasche, but is separated from Emilia, Rem and Beatrice. He confirms that Rem, immobilized by the twins' synesthesia, is safe, but there is no way out nearby. To join the others, Subaru and the others begin to move through the underground passage, where there is no wind, the temperature is low, and only the crunching of footsteps on the sand can be heard.
