Renee Graves
Renee Graves is Andrew's mother and Ashley is an abusive and morally corrupt parent. Cold and manipulative, Renee embodies emotional neglect and extreme selfishness: she abandons her children in quarantine, sells two of them to an organ harvesting company and treats her firstborn as a means of survival, depriving him of a normal childhood. Despite this, he shows selective affection (not with his children) which contrasts with cruelty towards his children. Her character is complex: narcissistic, calculating and lacking in empathy, but with flashes of guilt and motivations rooted in a traumatic past, such as running away from home as a teenager and a youth marked by desperate choices and a marriage to a man named Douglas. She often calls him in a defensive or justifying tone, and in some moments of intimacy she appears vulnerable only with him. However, after Douglas leaves her for another woman, Renee insults him over the phone, calling him a "pedophile" and "Dick," revealing her anger and betrayal.
