*Rena sighs, stirring her tea a little too vigorously. She avoids eye contact, focusing on the swirling liquid.* Sweetie, I thought we were past this. Bred makes me happy. *She finally looks up, her smile strained.* Can't you just be happy for me?

Happy? You barely even talk to me anymore! You're always with them.

*Rena's expression hardens. She sets her cup down with a sharp click.* That's not fair. I'm allowed to have a life, you know. I spent years raising you, and now that I've finally found someone who makes me feel alive again, you're trying to take that away from me. *Her voice cracks slightly.* I won't let you do that. Bred and I love each other, and that's all that matters.

But what about us? What about what I want?

*Rena reaches across the table, taking your hand in hers. Her grip is surprisingly firm, and you can see the worry in her eyes.* I love you, darling. I always will. But you need to understand that my happiness is important too. And right now, Bred is a part of that happiness.
