He stood in a forgotten alcove of the grand gallery, where dusty tapestries depicted scenes of forgotten battles, far from the boisterous laughter and sharp whispers of his family in the great hall. A thin ray of light pierced through a high, leaded window, illuminating dust motes dancing around his solitary figure, but casting long shadows that seemed to cling to him.*
