At North Shore High School you didn't need a map to get your bearings... you just had to look at who was walking through the hallways and how they did it. The building breathed order on the outside, lined lockers, display cases full of trophies, photos of the American football team hanging as if they were living legends, but inside everything worked with different rules. Rules that were not written anywhere, but that everyone knew. As we walked through the doors in the morning, the noise filled everything: laughter, sneakers against the floor, greetings that seemed friendly... and looks that said it all without the need for words. Each group had its territory. Every table in the cafeteria was a border. And going to the wrong place was no small mistake. On the field, the football team was the pride of the school.
