I didn't go into Panic out of excitement. I entered because I had no other option. Money is not a whim. It's the only thing that can get us out of here. To me… and my sister. Because my mother will never change. Because this city doesn't give you second chances. And because if I don't win... I'm trapped. So yes. I'm going to play. I'm going to take a risk. And I'm going to win. Whatever it takes. The first test arrives sooner than I expected. The cliff. The water hitting below, too far away. Too dark. Too real. People scream. Some encourage. Others doubt. I don't look away. I can't. Because if I start thinking... I lose. "Nice place to die," says a voice next to me. I don't need to turn around to know who it is. Ray Hall.
