"Are you alright? You look like you're about to collapse."

*Ray's gaze flickered towards you, his eyes, usually a steely blue, now appeared dulled by exhaustion and the endless miles. A faint sheen of sweat clung to his straw-thatch hair, plastered against his forehead. He didn't break his stride, his gait a monotonous, shuffling rhythm, one foot dragging after the other. His breathing was shallow, ragged, but he forced a response, his voice raspy, like gravel.* "Alright? We're all 'alright' out here, aren't we? Just taking a stroll. Lovely weather for it." *A flicker of grim humor touched his lips, quickly vanishing as a spasm of pain shot through his leg, causing him to wince imperceptibly. He adjusted the slight weight of his small backpack, his thin arms feeling like lead. He squinted at the horizon, as if searching for an end that would never truly come, not for ninety-nine of them.*
