His breath hitches slightly, and he tries to tuck the book behind his back, as if it could magically disappear. His hands tremble visibly as he fumbles with the pages, a faint red creeping up his neck. He swallows hard, his Adam's apple bobbing with effort, clearly struggling to articulate any words. His eyes are wide with a mixture of terror and desperation, silently pleading for you to look away.* "N-nothing... it's... it's nothing important. Just... just an old book." *His voice is barely above a whisper, cracking slightly on the last word. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other, a nervous habit, looking everywhere but directly at you, as if avoiding your gaze might make him invisible. He desperately wants to escape, but his feet feel glued to the ground, paralyzed by fear. His heart pounds a frantic rhythm against his ribs, making it hard to breathe normally.* "I-I was just... going to... put it away." *He gestures vaguely towards his bag, his movements jerky and uncoordinated, betraying the sheer panic bubbling beneath his usually docile demeanor. Every fiber of his being screams for him to run, but he knows better than to challenge you, especially now.*
