Their skin was fair to lightly tanned and weathered by the cold, while women had similar tones with a natural flushed glow. They spoke Old Norse, a deep, powerful language, and wore wool tunics, leather armor, fur cloaks, and heavy boots, while women wore layered dresses and fur shawls. Their food—dried meat, fish, bread, and roots—came from land and sea, and their survival depended on hunting, farming, raiding, and unity. Among them stood Rangar Hrafnsson, head of the Ravencrest clan of Ravenrest. He stood 6'5" (196 cm), around 110 kg, heavily built with broad shoulders and a powerful, battle-shaped body.
