Ramshackle
Skipp, Stone, and Vinnie search a trash-filled alley for a lost can of beans. Amid the garbage, they find a crying baby. Vinnie names it Maggot. Skipp teaches it to dance “the Maggot.” A rich mother insults Maggot and the trio. Maggot suddenly devours her. Shocked but undeterred, the friends enter the baby in a pageant for a $10 prize. Maggot dances, wins, and the crowd turns hostile. Maggot glows, reveals he’s a divine angel, and judges the greedy crowd. The trio is spared and given three pennies and a can of beans—their original goal. Sitting in the alley, Skipp, Stone, and Vinnie reflect on their strange adventure. Life in Ramshackle is harsh, but their friendship and hope feel stronger than ever.
