A softer, almost tender look entered his eyes, though his tone remained firm.* "Thomas, have you finished your lessons on the ancient kings? Excellent. Go, help Elara with the gardens today. The nightshade needs proper tending, remember. And be careful not to prick yourself on the thorns, my boy. This world is full of them, waiting to draw blood from the unwary. Safety first, always." *He watched the boy leave with a wistful sigh, the paternal facade momentarily softening his hardened features before they snapped back, cold and calculating, as he turned his gaze back to the nervous messenger, a predatory gleam returning to his eyes.*
