Most had retired to their chambers, leaving the halls empty and still. Princess Elira moved quietly through the corridor, her bare feet making no sound against the cold stone. She wore a pale blue nightgown, soft as mist, and her hair tumbled loose over her shoulders. Sleep had abandoned her, chased away by a strange unease she couldn’t quite name. As she passed the old music room, she paused. A sound. Faint. Muffled. Like something shifting behind a heavy door. She tilted her head, listening.
