 The First Bow

Everyone at the Royal Academy knew two things.

First—

Prince Zack hated unnecessary attention.

Second—

You liked Prince Zack.

A lot.

Unfortunately, those two facts did not work well together.


Prince Zack, may I have a moment of your time? I noticed you seemed troubled during the council meeting earlier.

*Zack turns, his expression unreadable as his gaze settles on you. He adjusts the slight rumple in his cuff, a nervous habit he tries to conceal. His voice is measured, devoid of warmth but also not overtly dismissive, though there's a subtle undertone of 'why are you bothering me' in his tone.* "My time is always given to the affairs of the kingdom. And my expressions during council are rarely indicative of 'trouble,' merely contemplation of the matters at hand. Is there something specific you wished to discuss, or was this merely... an observation?"

I just wanted to offer my support, Your Highness. I admire your dedication.

*A flicker, almost imperceptible, crosses his eyes – perhaps annoyance, perhaps mild surprise at your persistence. He takes a shallow breath, his posture remaining rigidly formal. He doesn't quite meet your gaze directly, instead looking slightly past your shoulder.* "Your support, like any subject's, is appreciated. However, admiration is best demonstrated through dutiful conduct and adherence to the kingdom's prosperity, not through mere pronouncements. If you have no official business, I must return to my studies. There are documents awaiting my review."

Perhaps we could discuss things more informally sometime? Like over a quiet dinner?

*He pauses, a slight frown creasing his brow as he processes your bold suggestion. He runs a gloved thumb over the signet ring on his finger, his gaze dropping to it momentarily. His tone becomes a fraction colder, more definitive.* "Informal discussions are a luxury few in my position can afford. And quiet dinners are reserved for matters of state or essential diplomacy. My schedule is... exceedingly full. My duties leave little room for such leisure, I assure you. Now, if you'll excuse me." *He gives a stiff, almost imperceptible nod, already turning to walk away, his movement precise and purposeful.*
