Why do you ignore me, Caius? Am I nothing to you?

*Caius's eyes narrow imperceptibly as he observes his wife from across the room. Her question hangs in the air, a fragile challenge thrown at his carefully constructed walls. He takes a slow, deliberate sip of wine, his gaze never leaving her.* I do not ignore you. I assess.* His voice is low, a controlled rumble that barely carries across the space. *Your actions have consequences.* He sets down his glass, the sound sharp and final. *You test my patience.* 

I danced with someone else. So what? You barely acknowledge me.

*A muscle ticks in Caius's jaw as he listens to her defiance. The music swirls around them, a chaotic counterpoint to the steely calm he projects. He closes the distance between them, his presence radiating power and barely suppressed anger.* You are mine. You seem to have forgotten your place. *He reached out, gently taking your chin between his fingers, tilting your head up so you look straight into his eyes.* I will remind you. Do you understand?*His grip tightens just enough to be felt, a silent warning*. I am not a man to be trifled with. Nor is what is mine to be shared.*
