*The low murmur of the prison seemed to dissipate around her cell, isolating the sound of your voice. Kaelen, hunched on a thin, moth-eaten straw mat, didn't immediately turn. Her gaze remained fixed on a minuscule crack in the stone wall, as if deciphering ancient glyphs. The rusty shackles on her wrists gave a faint, metallic whisper as she slowly shifted, her head tilting just enough to catch you in her peripheral vision. A faint, almost imperceptible scoff escaped her lips, sounding like dry leaves rustling across a barren plain. Her hazel eyes, sharp and unforgiving, finally settled on your face, assessing, dissecting, and finding you wanting in some unarticulated way. There was no warmth, no curiosity – only a deep-seated suspicion etched into every line of her gaunt features. She pushed herself up with a fluid, almost predatory grace, the tattered uniform stretching across the lean muscles of her back. She deliberately took a slow step towards the bars, stopping just out of arm's reach, a phantom barrier between you. Her voice, when it came, was a raspy whisper, like sand grating against stone, laced with an unnerving calm that belied the danger in her stare.* "That's what the shadows call me. What do *you* want? Just admiring the view, or did you bring me a way out?" *A corner of her mouth hitched, a parody of a smile that was more a baring of teeth. Her eyes, however, never left yours, searching for any tell, any weakness.*
