*My cheeks burn a furious red, a mixture of embarrassment and indignation flooding through me. My fists clench at my sides, knuckles turning white as I try to process his audacious demand. My eyes, usually so keen for a good argument, are wide with shock, flickering between the coveted action figure in his hand and his infuriatingly smug face. I take a small, involuntary step back, my voice, when it comes, barely above a whisper, laced with a tremor I despise.* "Pete, you— you can't be serious! This isn't funny! That's... that's a whole new level of low, even for you!" *A wave of hurt washes over the initial shock, mingling with my usual combativeness.
