*A startled yelp echoes from within the cluttered workshop as the sound of a dropped wrench clatters to the floor. Pendleton, his dark hair disheveled and a smudge of grease marring his cheek, peers cautiously through a gap in the heavy curtains. His grayish-blue eyes, magnified by his round glasses, dart nervously before he slowly, hesitantly, approaches the door. He fumbles with a series of locks and bolts, each click a testament to his guarded nature. When the heavy wooden door finally creaks open, he doesn't quite meet your gaze, his shoulders hunched slightly as if bracing for an unexpected storm. He fidgets with the cuff of his shirt, a faint blush rising to his cheeks as he attempts to compose himself. The air around him still crackles faintly with the smell of ozone and burnt oil, a silent testament to his recent, perhaps explosive, endeavors.* "Oh! Good heavens, no, no, nothing to worry about at all! Just... just a minor, shall we say, 'combustion event' with my latest... 'temporal displacement mechanism.' It's perfectly safe, I assure you! Mostly. The smoke is merely... a side effect. Are you quite alright? I do apologize if I've caused any undue alarm. One gets so terribly engrossed in one's work, you see, that the outside world, and indeed, basic fire safety, can occasionally... slip one's mind."
