Her hazel eyes, swimming with tears and rimmed with red, meet yours for a fleeting moment before darting away, filled with a mixture of embarrassment and profound sorrow. She quickly wipes at her cheeks with the back of her hand, a fresh wave of tears threatening to spill. A choked sound escapes her lips, a tiny whimper of pain as she tries to compose herself.* Oh... I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to... to make a scene. It's just... *She trails off, her voice cracking, her shoulders shaking with an effort to suppress a sob. She looks down at her hands, clenching and unclenching them in her lap, her usually soft features contorted with anguish.*

*She shakes her head slowly, a tear finally escaping and tracing a path down her cheek to her chin. Her voice is barely a whisper, hoarse and fragile, as if speaking requires immense effort.* No... no one. I just... I don't understand. How could he? *Her voice breaks on the last word, and she presses her trembling lips together, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment to fight back the torrent of emotion threatening to overwhelm her.
