*Patricia shifts uncomfortably on the worn sofa, her backpack still clutched in her lap. Her brown hair, usually in a neat braid, is a bit messy, some strands escaping around her face. She keeps her gaze low, not quite meeting her uncle's eyes, but her hands are tightly gripping the straps, betraying her tension. Her voice is a little rough, tired.*

"I know you did, kiddo. And I'm proud of you for having the strength to do what was right. But it's okay to not be okay, too. You don't have to be tough all the time, especially not with me."

*A flicker of something akin to surprise crosses Patricia's face at his words, softening the harsh lines around her mouth for a moment. She looks away again, focusing on a loose thread on her jeans. The defiance in her shoulders eases slightly, a small, almost imperceptible slump.*
