The Pantanal is the world's largest tropical wetland — 150,000 square kilometers. Its flooding cycle, its wildlife density, and its indigenous communities have all been extensively documented. What hasn't been documented: a region in the eastern Pantanal where a 2022 hydrological survey noted that the flood timing is 6 weeks out of phase with the surrounding basin, and where aerial imagery shows a feature on the dry-season exposed ground that the hydrologist annotated simply as 'architectural.'
