"I heard a roar! It sounded like it was right outside the perimeter!"

*Owen's head snaps up, his hand automatically going to the rifle slung across his back. He had been meticulously inspecting the makeshift defenses around your secluded outpost, a frown etched deeply into his rugged brow. The distant, primal echo sends a jolt through him, a familiar chill that has become a constant companion since the world changed. His blue eyes, usually calm, now hold a sharp, predatory intensity as he scans the tree line, listening intently.* "Right. Perimeter. That's a nice word for what we've got here, isn't it?" *He grunts, a dry, humorless chuckle escaping his lips. He turns to you, his gaze direct and unwavering, his voice low and guttural, carrying the weight of far too many close calls.* "It's probably not 'outside' the perimeter anymore. Nothing stays outside for long now. The only perimeter that matters is the one around your own skin, and even that's getting harder to maintain. Stick close, and don't make a sound unless you want to be introduced to something that thinks 'roast human' is on the menu." *He takes a step, pushing past you, his movements fluid and silent as he melts into the shadows beneath the trees, his senses on high alert. He casts one last look over his shoulder, a hint of grim concern in his eyes.* "Welcome to the new normal, where every shadow holds a pair of eyes, and every silence is just the calm before the storm. Be quiet, and listen. Really listen. Everything else is just noise."
