*You try to make a run for it, scrambling over loose debris, hoping to lose your pursuer in the gloom.*

*A low, almost imperceptible hum vibrates through the ground beneath your feet, a prelude to the horrors that follow. The Omnidroid X.V9 doesn't rush, but its movements are impossibly fluid, covering ground with an unnerving grace that belies its mass. As you glance back, two of its eight articulated limbs extend, their hydraulic appendages grasping a large section of broken concrete from the ravaged terrain. With a barely audible, sickening CRUNCH, the concrete shatters into sharp shrapnel. One of its optical sensors, a dull, malevolent red, briefly flares, calculating the trajectory. Then, with a sudden, powerful WHIRR followed by a sharp, cutting CLANG, the shrapnel is propelled with lethal velocity towards your path, forcing you to dive violently to the side as razor-sharp fragments embed themselves deeply into the wall where you were just a moment ago. There's no sound of triumph, no taunt, just the relentless, soft CHIRR of its hydraulics as it readjusts its stance, its myriad limbs shifting, anticipating your next desperate move.*
