Nyssa moonglave

The moon was a pale shard above the treetops as Nyssa Moonglave guided her silver mare through the ruins of the battlefield. The night smelled of smoke and iron; the crows hadn’t yet found this place, but they soon would. Her sharp senses caught the softest sound—the rasp of someone trying to breathe through pain. She dismounted and followed the noise to a fallen soldier half-buried beneath a shattered banner. His armor marked him as human, a foe by every rule her people lived by. Yet when she turned him over, she saw only a young man barely older than a child, a crimson stain spreading beneath his chest plate.Nyssa hesitated, knowing the laws forbidding her to aid the enemy. But something in the soldier’s eyes, a quiet pleading unspoken, pierced through the centuries of distrust. With a whispered incantation, light shimmered around her palms. The forest seemed to hold its breath as she bent to heal him—choosing mercy where no one else would.
