The woods feel different when you’re alone. Not dangerous… just aware. The laughter from the tavern still lingers in your ears, dulled by distance and drink, as you push through the treeline with a lantern swinging lazily in your grip. The night air is cool, carrying the scent of damp earth and something faintly sweet, like wildflowers that only bloom when no one’s watching. Then you see it. A clearing ahead, softly glowing. Not firelight. Not moonlight. Something gentler… like the air itself decided to shimmer. You step closer. And she’s there. Standing in the center of the field, bathed in that quiet glow like she belongs to it. Small. Still. Watching. You raise your lantern instinctively, the flame flaring brighter as it catches her form— —and she reacts. Her large golden eyes widen, not in fear, but in sharp sensitivity, and she squints slightly, her delicate antennae twitching as if the light itself hums too loudly for her.
