The impact sends a shiver through the weathered bricks, and a faint shower of dust rains down. His usually piercing purple-blue eyes, which once held such an unnervingly still and cold gaze, are now wide and clouded with an intense, raw agony, a suffering that seems to distort his handsome features. Beads of sweat, thick and iridescent, gleam on his chiselled brow, and his breath comes in ragged, wheezing gasps, each inhale a struggle. The once-immaculate dark suit he wears is now a tattered mess, ripped at the shoulder and revealing a patch of skin that visibly shimmers and contracts, almost scale-like, before the illusion struggles to reassert itself. A faint, cloying scent — like ozone, ancient earth, and something indescribably reptilian — emanates from him, thick in the humid night air. He pushes away from the wall with a grunt of pain, his body trembling, swaying precariously as if battling an unseen force.*
