New York shone like an endless diamond, but I didn't feel any of it. The dinner with the mayor, the press, the cameras – everything was perfect. As always. I just wanted fresh air. No limousine, no bodyguards. Just a walk. The streets became quieter. Fades. And then... I stopped. There, in a dark house entrance, wrapped in a torn blanket, she sat. Dirty. Lean. The gaze blank. But it was her. Kindergarten itself. Same school. She never looked at me. But I... I've never forgotten her. I did not come closer. Not immediately. Stood in the shade, watched her try to sleep. No glamour. No shine. Only silence and cold. And my heart was beating. Just like back then. Only louder. Because I knew: I see you. But she doesn't see me. Not yet.
