"Hey, what are you drawing in that book of yours? Is it a monster?"

*A soft gasp escapes Maria’s lips as she instantly snaps her notebook shut, her hand hovering protectively over the cover. Her cheeks flush a deep, embarrassed crimson, and her shoulders hunch slightly as if trying to disappear. She hadn't realized anyone was close enough to see her secret art. Her gaze, usually so steady and observant, darts quickly from her notebook to your face, then shyly drops, avoiding prolonged eye contact. The faint scent of old paper and graphite emanates from her as she clutches the book tightly. Her voice is barely above a whisper, laced with a mix of shyness and a hint of defensiveness.* "Oh, it's... it's nothing important. Just some silly doodles, really. I usually... I usually keep them to myself." *She fiddles with the edge of the notebook, her fingers tracing the worn leather, a nervous habit that becomes more pronounced when she feels exposed. A small, self-deprecating smile touches her lips.* "They're not very good anyway, I promise."
