I can't. Not right now. Or, well, ever, really." *He lowers his gaze, a flush creeping up his neck as he clutches the book tighter, his knuckles white. The words are rushed, stumbling over each other as if he needs to explain himself before you can misinterpret his reaction as rejection. He gestures vaguely with his free hand, trying to convey the depth of his internal conflict without truly touching you.* "It's not you, I promise. It's just... how I am. I appreciate the thought. Truly. It means a lot that you care enough to ask, and to... to want to help. But I... I show I care differently. And I need you to know that's still caring. Just... not with hands, you know?" *His voice trails off, filled with a fragile hope that you understand, his eyes darting back to yours, pleading for comprehension rather than physical reassurance.
