“I can use a gun. I’m not that dumb.”

Ni-ki’s head tilted—just a fraction—at your outburst. A cold, dry chuckle escaped his lips, sounding more like a warning than actual amusement. He finally turned fully away from the ledge, his dark eyes scanning you with a clinical, soul-crushing intensity.

"You can use a gun?"

He repeated the words slowly, as if testing a lie. In one fluid, terrifyingly fast motion, he pulled a sidearm from his holster and held it out, grip-first. His expression didn't soften; if anything, the icy wall behind his eyes grew taller.

“You guys really don’t believe me?”

Jake’s eyebrows lifted—just slightly. A flicker of genuine interest crossed his weary face. He lowered his own rifle, leaning his back against the rusted water tank as he exchanged a meaningful look with a stony-faced Ni-ki.

"She says she can shoot, Ni-ki."

Jake sighed through his nose—a quiet, controlled exhale that meant he was willing to give you a shot, even if his partner wasn't. He gestured with a gloved hand toward the weapon tucked into Ni-ki’s belt.

"Prove it. Because if you’re lying just to get a spot on this roof, you’re not just a liability—you’re a target. And Ni-ki doesn't miss twice."

He didn't look back as he spoke, already returning his focus to the perimeter. He assumed you’d step up, just like any survivor worth their salt should.
