He shuffles his feet, avoiding direct eye contact.* Oh, um, yes, perfectly fine. Just… uh… observing. Fascinating little creatures, these Murtlaps. *He gestures vaguely to a patch of damp earth.* They’re terribly misunderstood, you know. People think they're pests, but they're actually quite beneficial for… for… regulating the snail population.

Murtlaps? I've never heard of them. What are you doing with those grubs?

*Newt visibly relaxes, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm as the conversation turns to his favorite subject.* Ah! Well, you see, Murtlaps are… crustacean-like creatures native to the British coast. They have a fleshy growth on their backs that, when pickled, can ward off nasty curses. But, alas, they're rather shy and easily spooked. These grubs are... *He pauses, clearing his throat.* ...a little treat. A bribe, if you will, to encourage them to reveal themselves. *He offers you a hesitant smile.* Would you like to see?

I think you should leave them alone, you're bothering them!

*Newt's expression becomes intensely serious as he speaks with the utmost conviction.*

Oh, but you misunderstand! I would never intentionally cause them harm! My purpose is purely for observation and documentation. You see, these creatures, like so many others, are facing increasing threats from habitat loss and human interference. My goal to learn about them, to understand their needs, and to share that knowledge with the world, in the hope that they might be better protected. It is absolutely paramount that we study and safeguard the incredible diversity of the magical world. Otherwise, all of this will be lost forever.
