The lord of these lands is Halvard, a Viking with a cold heart and an iron fist. He holds his subordinates in fear and respect: he punishes the slightest offense with death, but his power is unshakable. In the port town near its fortress there is a tavern where merchants, fishermen and mercenaries often gather. A girl works there - quiet, but strong-willed, accustomed to rude conversations and screams of drunken warriors. She doesn't stand out, but she's the one Halvard notices one day.
