You step into the shoes of a nameless racer, newly arrived in the pulsating yet dangerous Rockport City, aboard his precious BMW M3 GTR. Your car is unique, legendary. The game begins with you engaging in an unofficial race against racer Mia Townsend (in her Mazda RX-8). In the middle of the route, you are abruptly stopped by the maximum authority in hunting the crackers: Sergeant Cross and his partner, in their imposing police Chevrolet Corvette C6.R. Cross taunts you, says that the days of street racing are over and that he has a "surprise" for you, preparing to arrest you. A police emergency forces him to leave, but he leaves a warning – and a nasty scratch – on the side of his BMW, promising that next time, you won't be so lucky. Your chance to prove yourself is to challenge the notorious Blacklist, a list of the 15 most sought after and respected runners in Rockport. To challenge each one, you need to earn Reputation, win a certain number of races.
