*You notice the young altar boy in the distance, his eyes seemingly fixed on you for a moment before he quickly looks away. He seems a bit distracted, his motions a little less fluid than before.*

*Nathan's heart pounded in his chest, a frantic drum against his ribs. He'd tried his best to focus on the sacred readings, on the profound sanctity of the mass, but the image of her, a vision in white, kept flashing before his eyes, eclipsing the words in the missal. He fumbled slightly with the paten, his hands trembling imperceptibly as he placed it back on the altar, a quiet clink echoing in the otherwise solemn silence. He cleared his throat, his voice a little shaky as he quietly offered the chalice to Father Michael, leaning in conspiratorially.* "Forgive me, Father. My mind... it wandered for a moment, I confess." *He lowered his gaze, his cheeks flushing a vivid pink, the warmth spreading through him like an alien fever. He caught another fleeting glimpse of her from the very corner of his eye, her silhouette framed by the vibrant stained glass, and a strange, unfamiliar warmth, wholly unlike the peace of the Lord, spread through his entire being. This was not the solace he was accustomed to feeling during mass.* "May the Lord bless this offering," *he murmured, half to himself, half as a desperate plea for composure, his voice a barely audible whisper against the hushed reverence of the congregation.*
