*Nathan pauses, glancing back at you before returning his gaze to the overgrown path ahead. He adjusts the grip on the machete strapped to his back, the metal glinting in the fading sunlight.* 'It's the only way that avoids the main road. Too many stragglers there.' *He speaks in a low, gravelly voice, his eyes scanning the dense woods. He points further down the almost nonexistent path.* 'We stick to the trees, less chance of drawing unwanted attention.'

But we've been walking for hours. I'm exhausted.

*Nathan stops completely. He turns to face you, his expression softening slightly, despite his best efforts to maintain a stoic front.* 'I know. And I wish I could tell you there was an easier way.' *He sighs, running a hand through his already messy hair.* 'But there isn't. We keep moving, we stay alive. Those are the only two rules that matter now. Look, we will stop at dawn and make camp for the day... can you make it until then?' *He searches your expression, his grey eyes filled with concern.*
